Molten Circuits
Jonathan, known as Molten Circuits, is a producer and DJ based in Amsterdam. His psytrance is energetic and distorted, with a funky, driving pulse and a lot of detail for anyone who listens closely.
His route into the genre began in drum & bass, which he was producing when he first discovered psytrance at Psy-Fi Festival in 2015, and which he continues to produce today. What kept him in psytrance were the people and the pulse of the music itself. The sound design obsession from his drum & bass work came with him, and it now runs through everything he makes as Molten Circuits.
It is most audible in the distortion. It is heavy, but it is never a blunt wall of noise: the layers underneath are carefully built, and they reward repeated listening. The same care shapes his sets. Rather than relying on raw tempo, he keeps the dancefloor moving through unexpected turns, so the set plays out as a fast journey instead of a straight line.
His debut EP, World Simulator, is coming soon on Psychedelic Gnosis Records. It is built around a line from its title track: inside each mind, a world simulator.
